COVID-19

SHOUTOUTS

For this edition, we invited institutions to submit
no more than a 1 paragraph shout-out to your state
representative about the amazing work your school
has accomplished during the uncharted waters of
COVID-19.
Our mission in this edition, was to be intentional
about telling your campus' story and recognizing the
incredible essential staff in our field. In a time that
can feel so weary, we want to give some light. We
hope you will find humor and light in these university
submissions.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY
As I am sure we can all relate, the COVID-19 pandemic
has called for staff at all levels to be flexible and
willing to adapt to changes at a moment's notice. The
staff at AUH has been extremely flexible and willing to
adapt where needed. Specifically, with the move-out
process, our staff has stepped up and not only carried
out their normal responsibilities but also completed
duties that would normally be fulfilled by our student
workers. Our Area Coordinators have gone above
and beyond working long hours during our moveout weekends assisting residents with lock-outs and
checking students out. While the transition to working
remotely has taken some adjustment, we have been
able to continue our regularly scheduled staff and
committee meetings via Zoom, and we have been able
to continue communicating through Microsoft Teams,
and of course, phone and email. Through social media,
email, and our resident newsletter, we have been able
to continually update our residents and have received
positive feedback from our students and families on
our willingness to adapt as the COVID-19 situation has
continually changed.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY
We want to give a HUGE shout out to the Georgia
Southern University Housing team on both the
Statesboro and Armstrong campuses for coordinating
a socially distanced move out for over 4,500 students
over the course of four days! The University System
of Georgia office commented specifically on how well
done our move out plan was, stating it would be shared
with others around the state as a template to use!
Additionally, we were given praise for how smoothly
our move out process went by both University
leadership as well as the System office. This could not
have happened without the hard work of our Housing
staff in conjunction with over 100 campus partners
who helped make this process happen. We are so
grateful to have a team who is committed to serving
our students! - The University Housing Leadership
Team (Pete Blutreich, Meg Heins, Ryan Heins, Nick
Shrader)

LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY
Louisiana State University (LSU) Residential Life
remains open to support students who need a clean
and safe place to stay during the COVD-19 pandemic.
While students were encouraged to return home if they
were able to, the LSU Res Life team transitioned to a
new normal in operations and continued supporting
the 1,200 students living on campus, including:
* Checked out 6,000 residents
* Provided refunds to residents who checked out
* Relocated residence hall residents to East Campus
Apartments and West Campus Apartments in four
days with each student getting a private bedroom,
private bathroom and a full kitchen to store and
prepare food
