SEAHO Report - Winter 2020 - 14

SEAHO News
represented in the SEAHO Report and informed of important information from the Governing Council. In the
most simplest of terms, representation matters. It matters to us as individuals but on this level it should matter
to you not only on the state level but also on an institutional level. Moreover, we are all doing great things at
our institutions. You may not think its groundbreaking or earth shattering but I promise you someone else may,
so I want to make sure your institutional story is being told. I have spent the majority of my career supporting
and championing for representation in the spaces where I am able because it really does matter. I am excited to
work with the state reps and continue the great work already being done and challenge them to shine the light
on their state even brighter where possible. I personally enjoy the behind the scenes work, coordinating projects
and celebrating the driving force behind our work, the people. Lastly, at my core I am a worker bee who enjoys
setting a shared vision, writing dynamic but attainable goals, and working with others in and around the region.
I am excited about the possibility to bring this level of energy and enthusiasm into the role if elected!

Dr. DeAndre Howard

Associate Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students, Mars Hill University
Hello SEAHO Family!
I would like to start by sharing that it is truly an honor to be nominated as a candidate
for the Director of State Representatives position on the executive board of our
beloved SEAHO. My experience within SEAHO transcends beyond 10 years at
different institutions within Virginia and North Carolina. This region has played an
integral role in developing me into the professional that I have become today. There
are countless professionals within SEAHO who have mentored me through my
growth and professional development and I am thankful. I consider SEAHO to truly
be my home because all of my undergraduate, graduate, and professional education
and experiences have been within this very region. I have been very connected with
SEAHO by engaging in a variety of experiences.
Here are several to highlight my involvement:
* SEAHO's Regional Entry Level Institute (RELI), Participant, 2014
* SEAHO Nominations Committee, 2015 - 18
* SEAHO Awards Committee, 2015 - Present
* Virginia State Representative to Governing Council, 2016 - 18
* SEAHO Next, Mentor, 2016 - 19
* SEAHO Research & Information Committee, 2017 - Present
* North Carolina State Representative to Governing Council, 2018 - Present
* SEAHO 2021 Host Committee, Website and Technology, 2019 - Present
I have had the privilege of being elected to serve as a state representative for two different states. The
opportunity to serve both Virginia and North Carolina has uniquely prepared me for this role and the challenges
that may come along with it. The state representatives are essential positions within the region, selected by
their respective states to serve and advocate on their behalf to the region. If elected for the role, I look forward
to serving as a resource by providing indispensable communication and support to the state representatives. I
also look forward to continuing the legacy of service established by my predecessors in the role. Lastly, I look
forward to continuing the camaraderie amongst the states and the representatives. Once again, I am truly
humbled by your nomination and I appreciate your support.
