Lastly, Do Not Push Yourself: If you try to continue on without listening to your body, taking account of your
emotional needs, and possibly not sleeping well, you will not be able to serve your residents in the best capacity.
The Director of Housing at Morehead State University, Alan Rucker, once said, "You are not a cog in a
machine."
We are not meant to be cogs in the higher education machine. We must take care of ourselves - especially after
traumatic events. There is more harm that can be done by pushing through and not seeking the help you need
or listening to your body. You do not have to be in this alone; seek assistance when necessary.

The Unsung Heroes....The Heart of Our Community

The eyes, the ears, the backbone, and the heart of my campus community belong to a group of women who
many might overlook. But without these women, there would be no me because they - the East Campus
Apartments (ECA) custodial team - are the ones who really ensure that everything is operating (buildings and
people).No one notices if something is clean, but if there is a facility issue or a cleaning concern, someone will
be at the front desk putting in a work order or sending me an email.
