So Now What? Implications and Considerations
So, what do you think?
In this writing, we have discussed the implications and harm of " fit " -based talent management, and the need
for diverse, equitable, and measurable methods to better support team members and the team. What I leave you
with at this point is a guide, based on the Plant Theory, to be used as a reflection and inflection point for your
organization. This guide is meant to be a framework by which you can begin to conceptualize your organization
and creatively ideate on ways in which to best support the many diverse plants (and people) that find their
way into those spaces. This guide is not a comprehensive model for you to use to create change, nor is it designed to be
prescriptive or universal. It is a model for conceptualization and ideation. It is in development and, much like the learning
process itself, is in constant revision and visitation.
How to use:
As a person or an office, identify a role or position in your purview, where you can answer the bulk of the
questions below. Because organizational structure can be convoluted and complex, some of this may be beyond
your ability to control -- still tell the truth about the answer. Even if you cannot change it, you must understand
it completely before you proceed.
I cannot control the allergens, humidity, pests, or weather in my region, but in order for my plants to thrive, I
need to have an intimate understanding of all, alongside a plan to provide or alter the care I provide, in order to
still meet the plant's needs.
