What other plants in the space
need similar conditions as the
new plant?
How is the plant susceptible to
harm or harmful actors? How
does the plant organically avoid
harm?

Once you have completed it, review it again with the following questions in mind:
* How does your environment support the diverse team dynamics you want?
* How does your training/development support & stimulate growth?
* What happens when your efforts fail? What is the department/unit/division/team's role in that failure?
Frame your responses to those questions based on the answers you provided via the rubric above. If you cannot
distinguish a clear response, or if you find that your answers are not in congruence with the mission, vision,
and values of your organization, consider how you can create better alignment. Ask yourself: What tactical and
strategic changes could be implemented within your locus of control? What would need to be a larger, more
comprehensive adjustment? What fundamental changes would need to occur? Where does the power lie to
determine those fundamental changes?
Conclusion
While I don't think that a concept as nebulous and extensive as " fit " can be overcome through this metaphor, it
is necessary for conversations and ideation around how work spaces, especially those in high-impact practices
such as student affairs, must be reimagined. Not only in how we teach students, how we develop leaders, and
how we create meaning, but how we determine who gets to be the teacher, what type of leaders we develop,
and what meaning we really have. As a field, and as a part of American society, student affairs is on the cusp
of transformative change, and we cannot get there using outdated, discriminatory, and exclusionary models
of thinking and being. Stepping into more inclusive, reflective, and authentic professional practices gives us
the true opportunity to challenge the norm, disrupt the narrative, and unwind ourselves from the oppressive
systems that have long guided our practice and practitioners.
