SEAHO Report - Winter 2021 - 3

SEAHO PRESIDENT

Hello SEAHO!
Oh what a time, oh what a time, oh what a
time! Those are words from one of my favorite
hymns and I think they are pertinent as we
reflect on the past year and the history we have
created. 2020 stretched us in ways previously
unimaginable and gave us an opportunity
to innovate through the chaos. Though the
process was uncomfortable for many (including
yours truly), the opportunities for professional
development and growth were abundant.
The next part of the hymn refers to a time when we all get together. As we look forward to
" gathering " in a few short weeks virtually and creating a new legacy while remembering our
history, I'm excited for the experience as it is the culmination of a labor of love by Ben Wicker
and the 2021 host committee. The group has made lemons out of lemonade for most of 2020
and will continue to do so in 2021. At the time of my typing this, we have over 850 delegates
registered for the conference! Visit https://www.seaho.org/page/seaho2021 for information
about our 2021 conference and see the product of this magnificent group of individuals.
We move into 2021 with renewed optimism and determination that the vaccine will return
to us a portion of the normalcy that we so desire. We look forward to the days that we will
be able to eliminate social distancing and return to a time of hugs and high fives. In my last
address, I highlighted some of the accomplishments from this year. I'm happy to share an
additional one, which is that we are now officially absolved of any financial liability for the
2021 conference and will return to Charleston in 2024!
I again thank everyone for their votes of confidence in me and encouraging words. This has
been a challenging presidency, but I am thankful for the lessons learned and the ways that
the organization has pivoted. In the end, the organization will be stronger because of all that
has been endured. The future continues to be bright for SEAHO, and I am looking forward to
serving in the past president role under the leadership of Dr. Dei Allard.
With love and gratitude, I wish peace and blessings to each and every one of you in 2021 and
beyond.
