your trip to New
Orleans for the 2016
AACVPR Annual
Meeting, don't forget
the delicious cuisine you will be able
to enjoy with friends and colleagues
after attending sessions led by
the fantastic lineup of registered
dietitians and nutritionists at this
year's meeting. The cuisine of
New Orleans is heavily influenced
by Creole cuisine, Cajun cuisine,
and soul food; seafood also plays
a prominent part in the cuisine.
Dishes invented in New Orleans
include po' boy and muffuletta
sandwiches, oysters Rockefeller
and oysters Bienville, pompano

en papillote, and bananas Foster,
among others. So, if you are ready
to indulge, let me share with you
what's planned for the nutrition
track this year.

bring you the latest developments
in Medical Nutrition Therapy
(MNT) for Persons with Diabetes
in Cardiopulmonary Rehab
Prioritized and Simplified for
Patients and Clinicians. The key
component in preventing, delaying,
or decreasing complications
associated with diabetes in the
cardiopulmonary patient and
delivering evidence-based MNT for
adults with Type 1 and 2 diabetes is

to help achieve and maintain blood
glucose as close to normal to help
reduce the risk of CVD. Presenters
will review the basics of the newly
diagnosed patient
in need of
survival skills
to advanced
carbohydrate
counting.
Presentations
will also include
a review of evidence-based
recommendations for weight,
reducation, DASH and
Mediterranean eating plans,
physical activity and alcohol
consumption in Therapeutic
Lifestyle Change.

Demonstrating how simple heart-healthy
vegetarian cooking can be is a great way to
inspire patients to learn new cooking skills.
