NYS Colleges at Cornell University
Cornell University is the land-grant university for New York State. It is home to
four contract colleges and schools that were created by an Act of the New York State
Legislature. Each contract college enjoys the benefits of being part of a private,
Ivy League university, while being connected to The State University of New York.
The land-grant mission of the university includes a commitment to make contributions
in all fields of knowledge to help improve the quality of life in the state, the nation, the
world. In return, the state contributes a portion of the operating expenses of the contract
colleges. This allows the contract colleges to keep the cost of tuition lower for
New York State residents, making their Cornell degrees more affordable.
Agriculture and Life Sciences
CALS is the only college of agriculture
and life sciences in the Ivy League and the
second-largest college at Cornell. The College
offers over 20 majors in four areas: food &
energy systems; life sciences; environmental
sciences; and social sciences.

Human Ecology
The College of Human Ecology is leading the
study of human life from scientific, social and
design perspectives. Students delve into the
liberal arts and apply their expertise in fields
such as business, design, health/medicine, law,
public policy and research.

Industrial and Labor Relations
ILR is the only undergraduate school of its kind in
the Ivy League. The School has a unique program
that uses the social sciences to focus on work,
employment, and labor policy issues and practices
of national and international significance.

Veterinary Medicine
The College of Veterinary Medicine is recognized
internationally as a leader in public health,
biomedical research and veterinary medical
education. The DVM program is comprised of
four years of graduate study and includes
clinical rotations in the Cornell University
Hospital for Animals.
