Mark completed an internship with an
award-winning photographer. He was able
to apply his studies in videography and
photography to create compelling stories
about current events.
Many SUNY programs include credit-bearing
internships as part of their degree requirements. These programs integrate classroom
instruction and on-the-job experience,
ensuring that students are job ready. The
tie between internship and employment is
strong; the National Association of Colleges
and Employers reports that the employment
offer rate for interns was 59% in 2018.

Serve Your Community
Derek wanted to put his public health
knowledge into practice, so he began
volunteering in his college's student-run,
free medical clinic. Derek gained a better
understanding of his field and his
potential place in it.
SUNY has a strong history of service-
beginning with its motto: To Learn, To
Search, To Serve. Service-Learning is
a teaching and learning strategy that
integrates meaningful community service
with instruction and reflection. SUNY
students participate in formal servicelearning programs, for which they may
earn college credit, and volunteer locally,
nationally and around the globe.
