Sequential Directions: King or Queen of the Toys
Materials: • Copy of page 65 for each student • Construction paper • Scissors • Tape or Stapler • Glue Prep: Before beginning the lesson, cut the construction paper into strips that are 4" wide and long enough to go around the child’s head with a slight overlap (you may need to tape/staple two strips together to get this length). Then cut a zigzag in the top of the strip to look like a crown. Students will follow four-step directions. The four steps in the directions may be completed in any order. Cut out the pictures and line them up so you can see them all. Listen carefully and follow the directions to glue the toys on your crown. Wait until I say, “Go” before following each direction. 1. Glue on a plane, a drum, a guitar, a monkey. Go. 2. Glue on a dog, a guitar, a plane, a drum. Go. 3. Glue on a horse, a robot, a skate, a duck. Go. 4. Glue on a duck, a train, a car, a Frisbee . Go. 5. Glue on a jump rope, a boat, a horse, a rocket. Go. 6. Glue on a dinosaur, a monkey, a dog, a skate. Go. Form circles with the construction paper and tape/staple the ends together so students may wear their toy crowns. Alternate/Extension Activities: • Include colors in the directions for students to color the toys before gluing them on the crowns. For example, “Add a blue plane, add a green drum, add a red guitar, and add a yellow monkey. Go.” • Have students brainstorm other ways to decorate their crowns (paint, markers, sequins, glitter). Allow students to add additional decorations after adding the toy pictures.
