Horse-Themed Golf Car Brings The
Autrys' Love of Horses to The Villages

Steve and Mary Beth Autry love horsing around.
After owning and operating a horse farm in Mount Olivet,
Kentucky, the Autrys moved to the Village of Lake Deaton
and wanted to bring some nostalgia from their farm here
to Central Florida.
The Autrys decided it wasn't enough to just decorate
their house with horse-themed memorabilia - they
wanted to show off their love of horses everywhere they
went. In this community, the best way to do that is with
a custom golf car.
Collaborating with local company Barry's Golf Carts,
the Autrys worked with an artist to deck out their golf car
with custom-painted scenes featuring horses from Broken
Bone Farms, their horse farm in Kentucky.
"We had to come up with a name, and it was a joke, and it
stuck," Steve said, referring to the name of the farm.
Considering he is an orthopedic surgeon,
the name seemed perfect.

Featured on the front of the golf car are two horses owned
by the Autrys: Samson, the stallion on the left and Samson's
Sonnet, the mare - and Samson's daughter - on the right.
"It was father and daughter who won the two top honors that year at an international show," Mary Beth said.
"All of his children were champions."
The Autrys' golf car also features a large mural of Samson
on the side, along with other small details such as horseshoes
on the sides and back as well as a running horse license plate.
"We gave (the artist) artistic license," Mary Beth said.
"We gave him the pictures and (told him) however it works
is the way he should do it. He wouldn't be an artist if he
was just painting my idea."
Even though they recently sold their farm, the Autrys
still ride horses they brought with them to Florida. While
a golf car may not take the place
of a purebred horse,
the Autrys' horsethemed golf car is the
next best thing - and
that's straight from the
horse's mouth.
