Some friendships are fleeting; others are meant
to endure. Outside her Village of Caroline home,
Vicki Tiffin chats with her good friend Ann May, a
spirited woman with a great sense of humor. " She's
hilarious, " Vicki said. " She can talk to anyone and
make anyone laugh. "
Ann stands in the driveway between their
neighboring homes, sporting a Santa Claus jumpsuit.
The weather is warm and breezy, and neighbors pass
by while on afternoon walks. They nod, smile and lob
jokes at Ann as she models her fuzzy new suit.
" I got this to wear to the pool, " she calls out. Who
needs a robe when you have a holiday jumper?
Both Vicki and Ann are new residents, with Ann
having led the way.
" I came here to help her move, " Vicki explained.
At the time, Vicki was a Lady Lake resident, working
in the insurance industry. When she arrived at Ann's new
home, she found her friend hard at work and exhausted.
" She'd been up all night, " Vicki said. " It was around
noon and she'd just gotten the truck unloaded. I said,
'Have you eaten? Let's go to lunch.' "
When the two ventured out, they saw a woman
with a puppy in her arms.
" I told her it was beautiful and asked her if I could
hold it, " Vicki said, laughing. Not the type to approach
a stranger, Vicki's request was a shock to herself.
" So when she told me the puppy was for sale, I
knew it was meant to be, " she said.
It was a providential moment, and there would
soon be another that would change Vicki's life.
" It'd been 15 years since I had a puppy, and I've
never had a Labradoodle. But we love Molly to death
and she's family. "
After helping Ann settle in The Villages, Vicki
returned to her home in Lady Lake. But as work stress
mounted, Vicki thought about early retirement. When
the home next door to Ann's became available, her
decision was clear.

My motto is: I'm going to do as much
as I can for as long as I can. I figure
the more I do, the longer I'll be able to
do it.
