" I mentioned it to my wife later, and she said, 'Well,
why don't you go for it?' " he recalled. " I emailed the
owner, and he was four miles from me. We drove over
and looked the car over and took it for a drive. I ended
up bidding on it and won. "
The car went through a restoration a few years prior,
but Dornfeld says it still needed plenty of work to get it
back on the road in top shape again.
" Basically, the car looks now like it looked then, except
I fixed most of it, " he explained, laughing. " Now there's
just a handful of things that I may or may not get to. "
One addition Dornfeld added was a CD/Bluetooth
player in the glove compartment, along with two
speakers in the front so he could play '50s music to really
help set the mood at car shows or while out on a cruise.
Though Dornfeld says he does not take the car out
as much as he used to, he says there are some shows
or situations where he'll take the classic car out of the

garage, including one such memorable occasion that
stands out in his mind.
" I signed up for my class reunion - the class of '56, "
he said. " I was thinking about it and said, 'Wait a minute,
I have a car that's '56!' I called up the organizer and told
him I have a 1956 automobile and asked if he would like
me to bring it. He was thrilled, so I had it parked right by
the entry door, and everybody gathered around it. "
Cruising Central Florida roads with the top down
and '50s music on the radio - for Dornfeld and his '56
Oldsmobile Starfire, that nostalgia is a way of life.
