If you are setting up with the center mark on the driver
directly behind the ball, you may not be getting the best
contact with your driver off the tee, especially if you rest the
club on the ground before you swing. One of golf's
ball flight laws is "Centeredness of Contact," which is
contacting the ball on the center of the club face, also
known as the sweet spot, for more control of direction
and optimizing distance.
Most golfers set up with the ball lined up with the center
mark of the driver (1). However, when the swing is made
properly, the club swings up and out past the ball, then
contacts the back of the clubface (2).
My suggestion is to set the club head down behind the
ball with the center mark below the ball, closer to the toe
of the club head (3).. On your forward swing, the club head
is raised to contact the ball and hits more centered on the
club face (4), resulting in better contact with the sweet spot
of the club, giving you a straighter, longer drive.

When the left elbow points up, the clubface is
dragged through impact in an open position
and can cause a slice. Try this drill to learn the
correct folding of the left arm.
Tuck a head cover under your left arm and
make some practice swings.
When you make a follow-through without the
head cover falling out, you'll be grooving the
correct release - where the forearms rotate
and the left elbow folds down.
You will be surprised how quickly your power and
accuracy will improve.
