Villagers Open Their Hearts

Love takes the shape of a heart and fills every crevice or
gaping hole. Where there was loneliness, there's a new sense
of fullness and purpose. At least this is true for the couples
we chatted with this month. Some met decades ago and have
traversed life together through many seasons and storms -
surviving unscathed and no worse for wear. Others met postdivorce, or after the death of a spouse. Some found themselves rooting for the same college football team, members of
the same Villages social clubs.
On Valentine's Day, we celebrate love with greeting cards,
assorted chocolates and romantic meals by candlelight. But
for the Villagers in these stories, romance is an everyday affair. Their gratitude for one another leads to tiny acts of kind-

ness, simple and meaningful sentiments - love notes tucked
into pockets, supportive words and smiles, date nights on
town squares and slow dances under the stars. These couples
have learned that commitment is a process, not a one-time
declaration. Valentine's Day is just another day to show appreciation for that special someone, and to give a little something extra to show him or her how much you care. In all
cases, it's clear that love is a strange and beautiful thing. You
can't say how or to whom it will happen. But if you cast out
your net, you're most certainly going to catch something.
Cupid can handle the rest.
