MAKES STUNNING ART WITH WIRE AND STONES

They twist and curve, shimmer and shine. Their
branches reach for the light, and their leaves reflect
and hold it. Gem trees have significance in feng shui,
and are used to cultivate energy and inspire growth
and abundance. For Roseann Benussi, they are simply
beautiful pieces of art she creates with a singular
intent: to give away.
That's not to say she doesn't enjoy the
process of making her trees.
" I like working with my hands, "
she said.
Gem trees are one of the many
types of art Benussi creates.
She works in several mediums,
including paper and paint. As
a skilled baker, she also has a
way with sugar and flour, and
enjoys treating everyone to
something warm and
sweet - handymen,
delivery drivers, neighbors and coworkers, too.
Growing up in New York, Benussi's school teacher
recognized her creative talents, and encouraged
her father to send her to college. She attended FIT
(Fashion Institute of Technology) and began working
as an interior designer immediately after
graduating. Since then, she's dabbled
in this and that, making new things
based on glints of imagination and
flashes of inspiration.
" I've done everything, " she
said. " I don't hunt for ideas;
they just come to me and I
see a completed project in
my mind. Then I go and
make it. "
