joint replacement surgery If all is going right, we don’t notice our joints. These conjunctions of bone, tendons and muscle allow us to bend, twist and move in ways that make us well, human. We talk, walk, point, run, bend, twist and do everything we amazing people are designed to do. If there is some sort of problem with the joints, it hurts. If the problem is in the knees, hips, ankles and even some fingers it might be possible to replace the painful joint with an artificial joint. Talk about being bionic. But joint replacement surgery is major surgery, nothing to be taken lightly, says Dr. J. Mandume Kerina, an orthopedic surgeon at Tri-County Orthopaedic Center in Leesburg. And, Kerina says that as techniques and materials improve, patients are getting younger. “It used to be the average patient was in their mid-to-late 60s,” Kerina said. “Now, they are getting younger.
