On Inspiration and Team Spirit
Inspiration is an organism. It lives and breathes, giving life and breath to
our goals and dreams. In this issue, we celebrate Women's History Month by
honoring local heroines who have inspired others through their innovation and
excellence.
You might say Vareda Martin is a health whisperer. A certified hypnotist
and nurse anesthetist, Martin used the power of suggestion to help patients
program their bodies for health. Martin believes it is possible to send healing
messages to your cells, signaling your natural, internal pharmacy to release
endorphins. Martin's healing journey began many decades ago in Columbus,
Ohio. The Village of Pennecamp resident continues to share her positive words
with friends.
Jill Moss-Greenberg is seven decades into social reform. Following years
of unswerving advocacy, Greenberg uncovered the veiled history of countless
unsung heroines - women whom the textbooks had forgotten.
"Most of us never learned the whole story in schools or at home," she
said. "We never heard about the women who maintained our families, who
volunteered at our churches, synagogues and mosques - the workers and
caretakers. Where is the other half of our history?" Greenberg spent her life
building bridges, creating coalitions and mentoring others on all levels where
unfairness was involved.
Liz Lowe is a natural-born caregiver who began carrying her first-aid box in
third grade. Later, she worked as a registered nurse, Red Cross nurse, licensed
practical nurse program instructor, home health nurse and hospice nurse. At
62 years old, she joined the Peace Corps and moved to a remote village to serve
as the only medical resource for poor families. Upon returning, she took other
nursing jobs and volunteer roles before finally retiring at 75. Read more about
these incredible women in our Women Who Inspire feature.
Also in this issue - classic cars and cool golf carts. Check out those snazzy
photos and nostalgic stories. Men, women, children and grandkids can
appreciate a nice set of wheels, and these vehicles get loads of attention around
town.
And if basketball is your game, you are not alone! There is a lot of talent in
The Villages, and when we inquired, the response was phenomenal. Narrowing
down our large list of leads for this topic was extremely tough, so kudos to
the community for its team spirit. In the end, we highlighted some fantastic
athletes, coaches, cheerleaders and Villages residents who were leaders in
college basketball. Check out their stories in our March Madness feature.
As for excitement, this issue is a slam dunk! And for that we thank you -
because you inspire us!
Happy March!
