"I'm a fan of red, white and blue," she said.
"It's all about the Marine Corps."
Red throw pillows brighten navy patterned
accent chairs set against creamy walls capped with
crown molding.
"I like the contrast," Del said. "My father was
a World War II vet and I was married to a career
Marine for 32 years before he was killed in 2002. I
lived and breathed the Marines."
A North Carolina native hailing from Marine
Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Del considers their
Villages home a cozy tribute to her roots. And to
North Carolina, too.
"Everything is blue there," she said.
It's more than a calming hue. It's a state of
mind. Balancing light elements with rich blues
and cherry woods brings a sense of harmony and
ease to each room - a Carolina essence.
Building a room is a process that happens in
layers - from paint to pattern to furnishings,
lighting and art. But sometimes, inspiration comes
in the smallest detail. In Del's case, it was a set of
polished porcelain balls.
"I loved these so much, I designed the whole
room around them," Del says of the decorative
tchotchkes that were gifts from her husband, Gary.
"It all started with you," Del told him, gesturing
toward the room.
"I wouldn't go that far," he chuckled.
