New golf cars typically
come out in the summer, and
Villages Golf Cars carries three
major brands: Yamaha, E-Z-Go
and Club Car.
" They're the top three in
the industry, " Kim said. " There
are companies out there that
don't quite understand how
we use our golf cars here,
and so we don't sell a lot of
those. We need headlights and
taillights and turn signals,
and we have self-canceling turn signals now.
We can put speakers and music in our golf cars.
The seats adjust. You can get eight different types
of seats. A lot changes all the time, and these
companies are always upping their game. "
Advanced features on major brands include
rear independent suspension, lithium batteries,
LED headlights and more. Yamaha's QuieTech
promises a luxury quiet ride on the gas model, at
45 miles per gallon.
" There's a lot of lingo, " Kim notes, but the
most important thing to know is the distinction
between golf carts and golf cars.
" We call them cars for a reason, " she
explains. " We take carts and turn them into cars.
We're The Villages Golf Cars. "
Kim's voice pitches higher as she describes
the next exciting step in the buying process. " We
give you a loaner car to use while yours is being
built, " she said. " We never want you to leave
without one. That's part of the lifestyle here! "
During the waiting weeks, buyers navigate
the area and get a golf-car view of the
community. They learn to love life from behind
the wheel, with warm breezes and vivid sights
and sounds.
" In about six weeks, we call them up and
have them come in for what we call the delivery
process; that's the most important part of the
sale, " Kim said. " I show them how the car works,
what kind of tire pressure, how the enclosures
roll up and down, how the speedometer works -
