" I go to car shows at Spanish Springs, and my wife will sit behind the cars
and go, 'You haven't sat down for four hours,' " Satterfield said, laughing. " I say
that this is my time to talk cars. People like the cars and talk to me about them,
and I'll tell people that (car owners) win trophies based on everyone voting.
You don't have to vote for this car, but find a car you like and give them a vote
so they'll have some acknowledgement. "
Satterfield says the recognition is simply a bonus for him, however. He
would be perfectly content admiring the car(s) on his own, either in his garage
or out on the road.
" I could sit out here and watch TV and look at the car and that's fine with
me, " he said. " I sent my son a picture one day while I was watching TV and
said, 'Look at me, I've got a drive-in theater!' And he messaged back, 'Well, look
how small the screen is!' I replied, 'Yeah, but look at the parking lot I have!' "
Under the hood of the Mustang, you will find the logo for Satterfield's racing
company, Yellow Dog Racing, emblazoned on the engine. Formed years ago
after someone called an old car of his an " old yellow dog, " Satterfield now
wears the name as a badge of honor. (And he won the race against the namecaller, too.) For him, the joy of owning and maintaining an American classic is
more than enough.
" My motto has always been, 'We don't buy 'em, we build 'em,' " he explained.
" It's just pride of ownership. I like cars, and I like to tinker with them. "

PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP. I LIKE CARS, AND I LIKE TO TINKER WITH THEM.
