Just inside Ezell Recreation, visitors find a magnificent staircase
that leads to an upper level. Through the thick bannister
that frames the loft, you find mannequins sporting golf attire,
a quirky take on the military-themed mannequins that grace
Eisenhower's upper level and model uniforms representing various
branches and ranks. Also similar to Eisenhower, Ezell Recreation
boasts treasured memorabilia (although related to golf)
including, framed photos and symbols of important milestones.
With rooms named after Villages golf courses, visitors find mementoes
in every room, and are free to roam and explore the
curious ensemble. It's a special place for golfers and non-golfers
alike to peel back the layers of history, toil and time and see how
the incredible golf courses came to life.
Ezell Recreation's area manager Nadia Whittaker has been
with The Villages for more than a decade, starting as an intern
and recreation assistant and, upon graduating from the University
of Central Florida, becoming a recreation supervisor.
" This is my sixth facility, " Whittaker said, the last being the
Spanish-style La Hacienda Recreation Center, prior to coming to
Ezell. Like other staff members, Whittaker is eager to mingle with
new residents, and to help them enjoy the amenities.
" We do have some transfers from other centers here, but for
the most part, it's an entirely new team, " she said. " Everyone is
super excited about the new building and all of the action inside
and out. We see a lot of newcomers, residents from all walks of
life, and they're all really happy to be in their new homes and
just full of excitement. "
