Pete and Thelma Albay APRIL 008 When asked how long Villagers have been cutting rugs at The Villages Recreation dances, Linda Feustel laughs. “We’ve been having the dances since I got here,18 years ago,” said the Lake Miona Recreation Center facility manager. “They were happening long before I got here.” Linda added that the dances have changed over the years. “We have grown in what used to be just a dance offered by the Recreation Department,” Linda said. “Now there are several kinds of dance: ballroom, swing ballroom, country-and-western, and line dancing. “The Giggles and Shakes dances are special line dances. There are also singles dances for the singles clubs, but you don’t have to be a member of those clubs to come.” Linda added that the Recreation Department also holds twice-yearly anniversary dances for “couples celebrating 25-plus years of marriage.” You can find a schedule of upcoming dances in The Villages Recreation News, inserted into Thursday’s Villages Daily Sun. Tickets for the dances are currently $8 per person, and if you want something to drink, bring it with you. While ice is provided, the dances are strictly BYOB, and bring your own snacks too.
