WhaT prompTed you To WriTe your Book?
The real-life, close bond between me and our parrot,
Richard, prompted Barry to write this story as a feature
film screenplay. To expand the story and broaden its exposure, we collaborated to turn the screenplay into this
book. We had a lot of help, including editing assistance,
from various writers' groups in The Villages.
WhaT do you hope readers
Take aWay from your Book?
We hope readers finish the book and say, "What a wonderful, clever and heartwarming story." They will meet a
parrot they'll never forget, and we hope people will understand better that parrots do much more than mimic
what they hear. There is actually cognitive understanding
involved in many of their words, phrases and behavior.
The parrot in this story was modeled after our real-life
companion, a blue-fronted Amazon parrot, who does
say or has said all the words and phrases that his character says in the story.
He also does or has done
many of the activities
mentioned in the story.
Also, we hope the book
reinforces the notion that
you should never give up.
