Making Ourselves At Home
After venturing over the rainbow, Dorothy Gale got it right when she said,
"There's no place like home."
Indeed there is not. In celebration of home, and all it represents, we welcome
you to the May issue. Take a seat and get cozy with stories about good neighbors
and dazzling décor.
As the epicenter for friendships and fun, The Villages is home to people
from all walks of life - people who, after raising families and retiring from
interesting careers, have come to find new adventures. Some have awakened
artistic abilities they never knew existed; others have formed social clubs or
found rewarding work in volunteer roles. Still others are content to swing golf
clubs in the sunshine, cruise the cart paths with grandkids, or practice the
Cupid Shuffle on town squares. In all cases, The Villages has become home.
Friendships are the bricks with which this community was built. So we
asked a vital question: Who are your great neighbors? Many people wrote to
us enthusiastically, with the hope that we would spotlight a special friend who
exemplifies Florida's Friendliest Hometown. But we are neither an encyclopedia
nor a database, so our space is limited. We thank everyone who cared enough
to nominate a neighbor, and we hope you enjoy the stories we were able to
tell about hometown heroes like Tina Ahearn, Ed Schlaff and Paul Cagle. Find
those stories in our Good Neighbors feature.
Terry and Kathy Haseman found a little piece of heaven here in The Villages.
After deciding they didn't want to travel anymore, the couple invested in
their own outdoor retreat, bringing paradise home to their
Village of Pine Hills place at the Preserve. It took
approximately 160 men to engineer the dream,
and the job was nothing short of laborious - but
oh, the results. See that spectacular story in this
issue.
Finally, we urge you to check out our usual
