Tell us about the free online monologue coaching
you're offering - what are some points you'll be
covering and who is this training for?
Whitney: We are offering this via Zoom (a video
conferencing service) direct from my or Nathaniel's living
room to the students. The sessions are 30 minutes, the first one
being free to students. The classes are intended for anyone
really. You can be a seasoned professional looking to brush up
a monologue, or you can be brand new to acting all together.
I have even been helping musicians work on their transitions
between songs and stage presence - the classes are tailored to
each student.

Whitney: I am doing my best to recreate a
regular "Don't Tell Nonnie" under the latest
safety guidelines. On May 4, Gary Powell and I sing
(from a distance of 6 feet more) for our "Don't Tell
Nonnie" event. If you have never attended, you
know these shows are fun and relaxed. Normally,
anyone who comes to a live "Nonnie" can bring
sheet music (or pick from our collection) and get up
and sing. The evening is hosted by me, and I usually
open the show, sing a few songs in the middle, close
it out at the end and generally keep the evening
going. But for this streaming event, I might be
relying heavily on my own repertoire.

Villagers are learning that internet performances can
be captivating too. As the saying goes, "The show must

coordinator of The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts
