CONTEMPORARY HOME

They weren't in the market for a home, but what
fun is life if not for the occasional surprise?
While visiting friends, Joan Roverud Eynard stumbled
on a place six doors down - a spec house with an
extraordinary view.
"When I saw it, I was wowed," she said. But when
she called her husband Steve, he reminded her of all
the work they'd just completed on their current home.
"I said, 'Okay that's fine. I'll let it go,'" she said. "We
really weren't looking to move. But the next day Steve
was golfing with someone who lived
(in the neighborhood). 'He said -
you passed up that view? Eynard,

Steve gave Joan the green light to
hold the house, but the next day he
went on a deep-sea fishing trip in the
Gulf of Mexico and was out of touch.
"When he came back I said, 'Hey
sweetie, we bought a house,'" Joan
said, laughing.
Although the floor plan was similar to their old model, the home was
a clean, white slate. Transforming
the space from stark to stunning
meant adding crown molding, soothing gray paint, functional furniture
and a bit of shimmer, too.
"I changed every light fixture to
crystal," Joan said. "They reflect the
light as the sun moves through the
house."
