CAL’S BARBER SHOP OPENS FOURTH LOCATION IN COLONY PLAZA Cal’s Barber Shop has gained a solid reputation over the years among male Villagers as a place to get a good haircut. In time, however, female Villagers discovered the same conveniences the family-owned partnership has offered at its shops in the historic section of The Villages and then later in Lake Sumter Landing Market Square. The convergence of those two market buyers explains why the partnership recently opened Cal’s Barber Shop & Beauty Salon in Spanish Springs Town Square. However, that wasn’t enough for J.L. and Mildred Lester and their daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Bill Langford, who own and operate Cal’s and live in The Villages, too. Not long after they opened the Spanish Springs store, the partners opened their fourth barber shop in the Colony Plaza Shopping Center. The expansion this year follows a year of strong sales, Vickie Langford said. “It was unbelievable, actually,” Vickie said about last year’s sales. “It was a great year.” The new shop in Spanish Springs provides customers with access to six barber chairs and four salon chairs, Langford said. So, customers have access to not only a standard cut but also complete salon services, including perms, foils, coloring and other specialties. While salon services vary in price, Vickie said, customers still pay a basic haircut rate of $11 for men and $13 for women in each of the shops. Go & Do Retail Briefs Hours vary at each shop. The shop at 6 La Grande Blvd. in The Historic Villages — 753-3377 — is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Call the Lake Sumter Landing store at 259-9100 and the Spanish Springs store at 391-5842. In Colony Plaza, the shop is open 8 a.m. to 5 Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Call 674-9308. LAKE SUMTER LANDING WELCOMES NEW MEN’S CLOTHING STORE Some sharp-dressed Villagers are strutting out of the new JoS. A. Bank Clothiers men’s store that recently opened in Lake Sumter Landing Market Square. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in need of a classic tailored suit for your granddaughter’s upcoming marriage or quality casual wear for The Villages golf courses, said Bob Schotta, the store manager and a Village of Caroline resident. This store has men’s clothing for just about any occasion. That’s why Bill and Anne Stone, Village of Duval residents, visited the store the minute it opened recently at 1095 Canal St. While in between doctor visits, the couple found some stylish polo shirts for Bill to wear while they’re golfing on The Villages golf courses.
