the Castaways eleCtriC boat worx Club Story By Mark anderSon photoS By Brandon atwell Keeping everything under remote control Visit Lake Mira Mar near Spanish Springs Town Square on a Tuesday or Thursday morning and you will see a friendly group of people gathered around the lake piloting an array of remote control boats. Those friendly people are the Castaways Electric Boat Worx Club, a group of enthusiasts who meet multiple times a week to share their love of RC boats. The club has been around since 2010, and it gets plenty of attention because of Lake Mira Mar's proximity to both Spanish Springs and La Hacienda Recreation Center. 16 JUNE 2019 "We got a lot of traffic coming over the bridge (near the recreation center) and people would come in and check out our boats," club member Bobby Parenteau said. "We tell them where the hobby shop is, and that's how we all got started. We grew, and at one time we were up to 65 members. We're back around 45 or 50 now."
