BIRDING IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE FASTEST-GROWING SPORT...IT CAN BE COMPETITIVE, BUT I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A SPORT OR A HOBBY, SO I DECIDED I WAS GOING TO CALL IT A DELIGHT. - Lyn Comans Martin adds that though the lists are based on the honor system, there is an organization that keeps track of birdwatching lists. "This is a list that is maintained by the American Birding Association," he explained. "They put out the list once a year and it's ranked by the number of species (the birdwatcher has) seen and recorded in their lifetime. We're talking thousands of bird species - they've birded all over the world." Not every member in the group - Martin included - keeps a list of all the birds they see, but many enjoy doing so, and Comans says that birdwatching's popularity has exploded in recent years. "Birding is supposed to be the fastestgrowing sport," Comans said. "It can be competitive, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a sport or a hobby, so I decided I was going to call it a delight." 20 JUNE 2020
