With plenty of scenic areas in which to take his
daily walks, Tim scarcely misses the San Diego trails.
"I like to take the golf cart out to different areas
and then walk 3 to 5 miles - just me and my
music," he said.
"The whole neighborhood can hear him coming,"
Diane added. "He sings at the top of his lungs!"
"I've never been shy about that," Tim said, laughing.
Sunshine and friendships keep him in good spirits.
Active neighbors also encourage Tim.
"I'm amazed at some of our neighbors," he said.
"John Horeth is 87 years old and he plays tennis
every morning. People around here are generally in
great health, and that's inspiring."
Dave and Pam Smedley originally are from Ohio
but moved here from Texas eight years ago.
"You couldn't get bored if you tried," Pam said.
"I'm involved in the exercise groups at Mulberry
(Grove Recreation Center) and I like to play water
volleyball and attend spiritual group meetings."
Like many Villagers, Pam forged friendships with
like-minded people when she moved to the area. Her pal
Pam Basye shares her name and many of her interests.
Bayse is on the swim team and she and her husband,
Bob, are from Ohio as well.

"We didn't know each other in Ohio, but we found
out we're from the same town," Bayse said. "We've been
here six years now and we're loving it."
John and Carolee Owen are Maryland natives who
moved here five years ago.
Via the social club newsletter, Carolee keeps the
neighborhood informed about events. But more
than a bulletin, her in-depth newsletter contains a
service directory in which residents can recommend
honest vendors, a list of upcoming birthdays, an
introduction to new residents, an "under the weather
report" containing the names of sick residents, and
community news.
