Throughout his career, Versley worked on dozens of
college and professional sports games, soap operas, talk
and entertainment shows, and even the 1980 Winter
Olympics in Lake Placid, for which he won an Emmy.
Versley assists the club with equipment and training,
helping club members learn how to efficiently run a
production.
The Villages A/V Club only assists at charity
functions and mostly uses equipment provided by the
recreation centers. Veach stresses they do what they
do because they enjoy it and they want to offer their
expertise for a good cause.
"The key thing is that we do small charity events,"
Veach said. "Large we don't do, and we do not do noncharity events. You've got to draw the line someplace
and our line is: we will do charity events - and there's
enough of those."
The next time you're at a Showcase of Talent or
other local performance at a recreation center around
The Villages, keep an eye out for The Villages A/V
Club. Members will be the ones operating equipment
or running around coordinating performers -
making sure every event has sights and sounds worth
remembering.
