the ringleaders," said member Patti Card. More than
camaraderie, FANNED exists for the purpose of charity.
"We raise money for the Wildwood Food Pantry,
Combat Veterans to Careers and other organizations
that are dear to our hearts," said FANNED member
Rohn Rahe. "Whether it's horse races, beer-wine bingo
or a holiday celebration, they make the mechanics and
visuals spectacular."
Among the most memorable parties was Christmas
Around the World, recalls Card. Sharon came up with
the idea and a group of ladies helped make custom centerpieces representing each country: France, Germany,
Sweden, Ireland and more.
"What an undertaking!" Sharon said. "We pulled in
our family histories and collectables from over the years."
Seven ladies created three tables, each with tiny
Eiffel towers, Swiss music boxes, cultural trinkets and

desserts from around the world. A handmade
card adorned each table, describing each
country's traditions.
The details, the forethought and effort they
put forth are always inspiring, notes Rahe.
As summer simmers to a close, FANNED
looks forward to October, a celebratory month.
"The snowbirds will be back in town and it's
the best month for a block party," Sharon said.
As they prepare for a super soiree, the club looks
back on a decade of picnics, parties, golf scrambles and
other things too - life transitions.
"Spouses have gotten sick and people have been
through unexpected changes," Rahe said.
Through the best and worst of times, FANNED have
stuck together, thanks to their hosts with the most -
Bruce and Sharon Carlson.
"They are the gorilla glue that holds our neighborhood together," said Kay Roberts.
As for the Carlsons, they're happy with their roles.
"When we moved here, we didn't know what to
expect," Sharon said. "We hoped for the best, and
I think we have it. We're never leaving, and we try to
show everyone that we're a welcoming organization
and we encourage them to get involved."
