Their name is familiar on golf
courses across The Villages -- Callaway.
They are known for their dedication
to producing the highest quality golf
clubs, such as their carbon fiber driver
to improve the performance of even
the most amateur golfer. What many
don't know, however, is that Callaway
is also well known among many
car enthusiasts. They have utilized the benefits of materials,
such as carbon fiber to also produce a one-of-a-kind car that
displays confidence and needs no introduction when it makes
its appearance and has heads turning; it's the 2021 Callaway
Launch Edition C8 Corvette prototype-- the only one in existence.
" (Callaway) can make a car to be driven to the grocery store
then won with at the racetrack, " owner Rich Udell said. " That's the goal. "
Rich and Paige Udell have spent more than 20 years focusing on
remaking classic cars into show-stopping works of art without leaving a
single detail unattended. A couple of the many projects they've done is
The Instigator, a modified red and black 1934 Chevy Sedan. It was named
No. 1 overall champion at the International Car Show Association 16
years ago in Cincinnati. They also introduced the hotrod simply known as
Timeless, a 1932 Ford Roadster that has 62 obvious or hidden hourglasses
making up the design theme of the car, as well as a unique shade of green
that Rich and Paige dubbed " Montana Mint. "
" We love it, " Rich said, holding their No.1 fan, Miniature Pinscher
Hoochie Mama. " We do this because we have a passion for it. "
Their eye for uniqueness prompted an offer from Reeves
Callaway, the founder of Callaway Cars Inc., in 2021. He asked
Rich and Paige about a car they might be interested in.
" Reeves and I had a discussion, " Rich said. " I had a
meeting with Reeves, Pete (Reeve's son) and their
engineers. We sat down and we talked about what
they thought they wanted to do. They sent me
artists' concepts of what they had in mind, but
at that time they didn't have it in a viable piece.
I decided that I liked what they had and I said,
'Okay, let's go for it.' "
The Callaway C8 was designed with several
significant changes all the way to the wheels to
improve speed and handling. One of its signature
modifications is its tuned exhaust system.
Callaway has dropped the traditional Corvette
side exhaust system and designed it to run to
the carbon fiber rear design with the Callaway
signature double-d exhaust. The one-of-a-kind
vehicle also sports a carbon fiber diffuser to compliment this
modification. The front suspension of the C8 has also been redesigned.
