Gardening September 15 New Residents Workshop 9 a.m. Colony Cottage Recreation Center Nancy Lopez hosts AIM Benefit Nancy Lopez, the queen of golf, is ready to celebrate the 51st anniversary of her favorite charity, and she hopes her Villages neighbors join in with support. Lopez will be at Spanish Springs Town Square from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 3, signing autographs, posing for pictures, selling her line of golf shirts, shorts, sweaters, visors, along with a few collectibles — all to benefit AIM, short for Adventures in Movement — a nonprofit music-based therapy program, in which all types of music is used to help retrain the brain and muscles of children who have suffered the loss of motor skills. Teachers are taught the AIM method at workshops throughout the country. During last year’s meet-and-greet session, Lopez was touched by Villagers who brought plastic containers filled with coins that they’ve saved over the year to donate to AIM. The Hall of Fame golfer believes in the work of Dr. Jo Geiger, founder and national executive director of AIM, and said it has been a joy to watch how AIM has helped many children and their families since its humble beginnings in 1958 with four blind children. “AIM has been there to help these kids in any way that they can, to make their handicaps better, to help them to walk, to help them to talk — and to me, it’s just incredible,” Lopez said in an earlier interview. Geiger will join Lopez at Town Square on Oct. 3.
