H is for Honor Flight
Veterans get the trip of a lifetime thanks to Villages
Honor Flight Inc. - the 501(c)(3) corporation
that flies veterans to see the monuments at
Washington, D.C. The club, started in 2011, has
monthly meetings with volunteers who support
the mission. About 300 members make each flight
a reality, establishing a bond between veterans
and guardians, looking out for veterans' safety,
coordinating mail call, helping with send-off and
homecoming ceremonies and more. Call Barbara

J is for Jazz Lovers
Jazz lovers savor the smooth sounds of three jazz
clubs in The Villages. The Jazz Lovers Music Club,
almost 20 years old, features professional musicians
at its monthly concerts for 600 members while
raising $15,000 a year in student jazz scholarships.
Call Barbara and Walter Griffith, 750-1142, who also
oversee a similar but smaller group, Jazz & More Jazz.
Plus, Villagers can play big band music weekly with
25 residents in the Jazz Band Workshop, 633-5347.

Luck of the Irish has grown the number of Irish groups
in The Villages from one to four, and they're some of
the larger clubs here. Residents can choose from the
original St. Patrick Division, with about 600 members,
205-7101; the Shamrock Division of 550 who dance
and host musical guests, 205-7991; the Claddagh
Division, a social, dance-focused group of about 400
started in 2007, 430-1812; and All Things Celtic
Club, started around 2005, bringing in professional
musicians for its 600 members, 430-1792. All the
groups come together for the Irish American Parade.
