DEALING WITH
AN UNPRECEDENTED
SITUATION
Like everyone else, Constant and the
rest of the staff at The Sharon overcame
plenty of adversity over the last year and a
half. However, few industries were as hardhit
as the entertainment industry, with
cancellations and no clear date when plays and
performances might be rescheduled.
Like every other theater around the world,
both The Sharon and The Studio had to put
things on hold for a while and come up with
some creative solutions in the meantime.
" We're super grateful that we work for The
Villages and that we were able to keep our
jobs during this time, " Constant said. " A lot
of people in our industry did not. We are just
really lucky to live in Florida and work for The
Villages. "
As quarantine began setting in and venues
closed their doors. Constant says she saw a
big shift in the entertainment industry. Where
agents may have been pushy or demanding in
the past, she says when things were shutting
down,
the
tolerant.
" The whole world was shutting down, "
she explained. " Everybody got really
compassionate. All of the people in our
industry got a little nicer, more forgiving and a
little more lenient. It used to be kind of harsh
- 'We're doing this date!' Or, 'We're getting
this much money!' Now it's like, 'Will you just
do a show?' (Laughs) People got a little softer. "
quarantines and social distancing putting a halt to
almost all in-person entertainment. Staff at The Sharon
had to get creative and find new ways to continue
putting on performances via livestream - something
they had never done before.
Now, The Sharon and The Studio are excited to
begin welcoming full-capacity audiences again this
month. We talked with Elizabeth Constant, the booking
coordinator at The Sharon, about the challenges she
and the rest of her crew faced over the past year and
everything they are excited for later this year.

and that we were able to
keep our jobs during this
time ... A lot of people in our
industry did not. We are just
really lucky to live in Florida
and work for The Villages.
