ONCE MORE, WITH FEELING
With both The Sharon and The Studio reopening at full capacity, Constant
says she has seen a flurry of activity booking and scheduling shows once
again. With a slate of new performances, as well as rescheduling shows that
were canceled last year, she says the season already is packed, with even more
that has yet to be announced.
" We do about 125 performances a year, and I'm already at 140 and not everything
is done booking, " she said, laughing. " Essentially my '20-21 season
got picked up and moved to '21-22. It's like, 'Remember what we were doing
last May? That's what we're doing again.' But that's OK, it's still exciting. We
chose those shows and we still really like them, so we're happy to have them
again. "
Several past performers who were big hits in The Villages are slated to return
again either later this year or early next, including Judy Collins and Jay
Leno in January 2022.
There are several performances Constant is looking forward to, including
Jimmy Buffett's musical " Escape to Margaritaville, " which she says should be
a huge hit with local Parrotheads. She also says another local favorite is the international
subscription series of performances from around the world.
" We've got Poland, Argentina, Zimbabwe, Austria, Spain and Britain all
coming with all different acts, " she said. " We have some patrons who like to
buy the whole subscription and then go to eat dinner at whatever region the
night of the show to make it kind of a theme night. "
The Studio's season is another highlight Constant is looking forward to,
with a roster of artistic plays that are designed to make an impact.
" They're always more artistically driven and unique and they push the envelope
a bit more, " she said. " I'm excited for them - they're always a little bit
edgier. "
While The Sharon was putting on limited shows during quarantine, Constant
says the box office team took the time to add some new innovations, including
digital programs.
" The box office has updated lots of technology over the last year, " she said.
" We're really into the digital programs - it's less trash and less printing. We'll
still print a few, but I think we're going to keep that change. You can do the QR
code on your phone and the program shows up. We like that. "
Theater-goers also can purchase tickets using the brand-new ticket kiosk located
inside the Old Mill Playhouse at Lake Sumter Landing.

Comedy performances, musical concerts and vibrant theatre - now that
The Sharon and The Studio are back in action with a full season and new safety
measures, Villagers can expect to see plenty of arts and entertainment here
in The Villages once again.
