What You'll Need Available at local craft stores: * * * * Wooden birdhouse Acrylic paint in a variety of colors Medium sponge paintbrush Regular paintbrushes, small and medium sizes * Hot glue gun * Hot glue sticks * Items to decorate your birdhouse (gems, stones, glitter, sand, etc.) * * * * Disposable table cover or newspaper Bowl of water Large plates White craft glue hoW to Make It 1. Line your table or surface and plug in your hot glue gun. 2. Squirt the acrylic paint colors you want to use onto one of your large plates. 3. Set aside the decorative pieces you want to hot glue onto your birdhouse. 4. Use your sponge paintbrush to paint the large areas of your birdhouse. Use your regular paintbrushes for the smaller areas. If you switch colors, be sure to dip your paintbrush into a bowl of water to wash off the prior color. 5. Set your birdhouse aside on your table cover for 10 minutes, or until it's dry. 6. Once your birdhouse completely dries, carefully use the hot glue gun to adhere your decorative pieces. 7. If you wish, you may add sand, glitter or other textures. To do so, place your birdhouse on a new plate and spread craft glue on the areas you have selected. Then, sprinkle the materials on those areas. 8. Pick up your birdhouse, flip it upside down and shake off any excess glitter, sand or other textures you used onto your plate. 9. Set your birdhouse aside until it completely dries. 10. Find a spot in your garden or backyard to hang or place your birdhouse. Fill it with bird food or simply use it as an outdoor decoration. Note: Purple martin birdhouses are not allowed in most areas of The Villages. Check with your Community Standards office at 751-3912 to see what you're permitted to display in your yard.
