"We had a huge graveyard with a smoke machine and all
that stuff," Ken added. "It was a lot of fun."
When they moved here to The Villages, the couple
brought most of their Halloween decorations with them -
even though their son, who is in the military, had a lot of it.
Now, they set up both the inside and outside of their
home with Halloween decorations and throw a big party for
their friends and neighbors, and they say they usually get
around 40 to 50 people who show up.
At the party, everyone plays games, enjoys Halloweenthemed food and drinks and participates in a costume
contest. The games always are a highlight of the
night, and even though there usually are no kids
at their parties, Ken and Carol say that does not
stop their guests from enjoying the same activities
they used to love when they were children.
"The funniest one we did was the mummy
wrap, but you'd think that would be for little kids,"
Ken said.
"I used that game for Halloween
parties when my son was in school,"
Carol added, laughing. "Everybody
loved it - of course, the house had
toilet paper everywhere, but it was
fun."
They even hired a magician to
attend last year's party, and the
couple has plenty of ideas for
new things to do at this year's
shindig. They began buying
decorations in August, and they
are looking forward to throwing
another fun party.
"I enjoy it," Carol said. "Halloween
is no pressure. It's not like Christmas,
where you have to buy presents and
wonder what are you going to buy.
Halloween is just fun."
