After a long dispute over ownership of the truck, Robbins and
her husband eventually salvaged it, even though by this point it had
fallen into disrepair - parts were missing and the truck would not
start. While they continued to move throughout the country, they
received several offers to buy the truck for parts, but Robbins says
they just could not bring themselves to sell it.
Robbins' brother-in-law works on Ford Model As, and the
couple gave the truck to him to rebuild. It took him seven years to
fully restore the truck to working condition, and though Robbins'
husband never had the opportunity to drive it again before he
passed away, he did get to see the finished truck.
Now, Robbins participates in car shows and cruise ins around
Central Florida, and an end table in her home holds the many
trophies she and the truck have won throughout the years.
"When I go to the antique car shows, the men are so nice,"
Robbins said. "They light up like Christmas morning when
they tell me the memories they had of (these trucks) as a
child riding with grandpa. Everybody loves this truck."
Robbins gets plenty of attention with her truck, and
she has done photo shoots with newlyweds and even
a music group that wanted to use the truck as a prop
for their album cover.
Whether at a Halloween Trunk or Treat, a Cruise
In or simply taking a drive around Central Florida,
Robbins and her Ford F1 are inseparable - after 53
years, the truck is a part of the family.
"When I'm running this anywhere, a lot of
people give me the thumbs up or they honk
their horn," Robbins said. "The women
love it. They yell out the window, 'I love
your truck!' It's a pretty good girl."
