Veterans Outpatient Clinic Opens The ribbon-cutting last month at The Villages Outpatient Clinic signaled a new era in accessibility to veterans health care services in The Villages and surrounding communities. Veterans now and in the near future will have access to some of the best available health care technology at this 90,000-square-foot facility the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs developed on County Road 42 just east of Mulberry Grove Plaza Shopping Center. The federal agency appointed Robert Cummings as the facility’s medical director. He most recently worked as a medical director at the Greenville (S.C.) Health System University Medical Center. Once it reaches full operation, the outpatient clinic will offer a range of minor- and acute-care medical services such as primary care, audiology, dental, endocrinology, pharmacy, radiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation service, women’s health, visually impaired services, CT scan, cardiology, eye care, dermatology, pulmonology, minor surgeries, MRI, podiatry, wound care, mental health and social work. All procedures and diagnoses not covered by the clinic will be referred to the Gainesville VA Medical Center. However, veterans in need of more comprehensive services still will have access to the shuttle van operated by many volunteers in The Villages. Veterans may call the outpatient clinic at 674-5000 for more information.
