BUSINESS BRIEFS RE She Scrapbooks Scrapbooking and papercrafting enthusiasts in The Villages recently gained new conveniences when She Scrapbooks expanded and relocated to La Plaza Grande Shopping Center. The scrapbook and papercraft supplies retailer and instructional center more than doubled in size with the move to 918 Bichara Blvd., on the south end of the retail center next to The Village Eatery. More than 300 customers helped store owner Stephanie Vaughn, manager Yvonne Blair and their staff celebrate not only the Oct. 29 grand reopening but also the store’s second anniversary. “It was an overwhelming response,” Vaughn said. Rapid customer growth the past two years accounted for the decision to relocate from the Old Mill Run location in Lake Sumter Landing Market Square, Vaughn said. “We loved the charm and location of Sumter Landing, but we had just outgrown the store,” she said. The move also gave customers new conveniences in the form of increased parking and ease of access, Vaughn said. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For information, call the store at 259-6226. “We found that La Plaza Grande is a better fit for our customers,” Vaughn said. “That’s our top goal: to be in the best place to serve our customers.” The move also enabled Vaughn and her staff not only to increase product variety, but also better serve the customers who attend the store’s scrapbook and papercraft instructional classes. “It’s allowing us to increase the size of the classes, and also expand how many people can take our more intense classes,” Vaughn said. Preferred Care Partners Medicare beneficiaries in The Villages who subscribe to Preferred Care Partners received some positive news as the 2012 enrollment period opened in October. The only Medicare Advantage health care provider with permanent offices in The Villages earned the designation as a 2012 Senior Choice Gold award winner from HealthMetrix Research Inc., a Columbus, Ohio-based health care consulting and research firm. That means the Miami-based Medicare provider, with offices in the Little Red Schoolhouse in Lake Sumter Landing, excelled in benefits value for the 2012 benefit year, said Alan Mittermaier, HealthMetrix’s president. Consumers benefit from such a designation, Mittermaier said, especially during the few remaining days this month of the Medicare open enrollment period. Open enrollment concludes Dec. 7. “These forward-looking independent comparisons provide Medicare beneficiaries with estimated annual out-of-pocket costs associated with joining a Medicare Advantage plan,” Mittermaier said. Because of the benefit to the subscriber, Preferred Care Partners designs its Medicare Advantage plans using “best benefit value” standards, said Joseph Caruncho, the Miami-based firm’s chief executive officer. For information about how it does that, call the firm at 391-5262 or toll-free 866-473-0218. DECEMBER 2011 “That is a key factor which we consider when designing our benefits each year,” Caruncho said. “Being a permanent member of The Villages community, we understand this market. And because The Villages is a longterm commitment for us, we invest significant resources in determining what benefits best meet the needs of the residents.”
