Robert Woodling: 2009 North Central Regional Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year By Preece KATHLEEN Forester John Stambaugh has appreciated working with Robert Woodling on his Benton, Indiana, Tree Farm. “This is a man who makes believers out of the uninitiated, gives the forest new meaning to children,” says Stambaugh. “One who constantly seeks self improvement and bravely takes on new measures that go beyond the typical steward.” That commitment to sustainable forestry and educating others prompted Stambaugh to nominate Woodling for 2009 North Central Region Tree Farmer of the Year honors. Good-Woodling Woods, which Woodling owns with his wife, Linnea Good, has been the focus of a couple deeply committed to proving the vitality of a well-kept woodland. Woodling’s background in university administration and accounting shows in the details of his management planning, from copious record-keeping to wellengineered roads to the meticulous way he harvests a tree.
