Keeping BuilDinGS & GrounDS Safe ❙ CompLianCe BenChmaRKing Observation: The exit near the corner of the building has a step down immediately outside the doors, which violates the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life Safety Code and other standards. During an emergency evacuation, people may fall and block the exit. The step also limits accessibility for people with disabilities. Recommendation: Enlarge the landing area outside the doors so that it extends out at least one door width beyond the door threshold. EMC’s Compliance Benchmarking service can also help you identify other areas that could be out of compliance with regulations and standards.
