Highlights of IAFP’s Asia Pacific Symposium on Food Safety September 26–28, 2011 Melbourne, Victoria, Australia T Wednesday afternoon! he International Association for Food Protection, in collaboration with Australian Institute of Food Safety and Technology (AIFST), the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Food (ICMSF), and the Australian Association for Food Protection (A AFP), held IAFP’s Second Asia Pacific Symposium on Food Safety in Melbourne, Australia. More than 350 food safety professionals from around the globe gathered at the Sebel Albert Park Hotel in Melbourne over the dates of September 26–28. The meeting was expertly organized by A IFST and a program committee made up of members from each of the organizations. Under the direction of Mel Malloch, the entire team of A IFST staff tended to the needs of each attendee. The friendly welcome received from the organizers and the Australian people will long be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to attend the conference. Sessions were well attended right up to the last session on Attendees had the opportunity to network with influential leaders from government, science, industry, and academia, while meeting vendors and learning about their solutions and products for the food safety industry. IAFP Members and speakers included IAFP President Isabel Walls, Katie Swanson, Stan Bailey, Bob Brackett, Bob Buchanan, Martin Cole, Trish Desmarchelier, Leon Gorris, Ian Jensen, Fumiko Kasuga, Anna Lammerding, Doug Powell, Tom Ross, Mark Tamplin and Marcel Zwietering. More than 50 presentations were delivered over the three-day conference schedule.
