IAFP was proud to support and/or participate in three key food safety conferences during October and
November 2017. In its global efforts to spread the food safety message, the Association was well represented
in the programs by many Members, along with past and current Executive Board Members who invested much
time traveling to Santiago, Chile, Beijing, China and Dubai to speak on various topics and issues addressing
food safety. We are pleased that the strong presence of IAFP at each of these conferences was beneficial in
gaining many new Members to continue our goal of Advancing Food Safety Worldwide®.

INOFOOD 2017
Since its beginnings
in 2009, INOFOOD has
grown to become an
important food safety
event in Latin America.
This key summit brings
together more than 40
national and international speakers and
hundreds of food safety
professionals who spend
two days discussing
important issues and
trends in food safety
and their impacts in
Latin America.
INOFOOD 2017 took place October 23-24 in Santiago,
Chile, and included approximately 600 participants from
across the country and around the world.
INOFOOD has historically been sponsored by the
Ministries of Agriculture and Health and by the Chilean
Agency for Food Safety and Quality (ACHIPIA) and the
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with support
from important food companies. This year, Eurofins GCL
was a major participant, helping to organize sessions and
provide speakers.
Among the sessions conducted during INOFOOD
2017 were: International and National Experiences as Inspiration for a 'Culture of Safety' in Chile; Saluting Innovation in the Food Sector; Innovation: Technological Options
Applied to Food; Evolution of Knowledge in Pathogens

- An Invitation to Deepen the Challenges; Risk Management, Sharing Experiences; The New Formulations and
Their Impact on Product Quality and Safety; Challenges
in Implementing Measurements of New Analytics in Laboratories; and Control of Hygiene and Risks in Plants:
The Traditional and the New.
Representing IAFP, President-Elect Tim Jackson
spoke on "Vision on Process and Management Technologies that Support the Development of the Food Industry
toward Better Quality" and "The Experience of Monitoring
the Microbiological, Chemical and Physical Hazards in
Process Plants and Support Technologies." Past President Frank Yiannas presented "Install Culture of Safety in
Practice: Companies, Schools, Community and a Country"
and "Block Chain Technology Applied to the Development
of Food Safety and Traceability Protocols." IAFP Executive Director David Tharp was also in attendance and
provided a welcome on behalf of IAFP Members.

Emeritus, University of Aberdeen, Commander of the
Order of the British Empire (CBE), Research Coordinator
E. coli case, UK; Michel Leporati, Executive Secretary
of the Chilean Agency for Food Safety and Quality;
Guillermo Figueroa, Researcher and Head of the Laboratory of Microbiology and Probiotics for INTA, University
of Chile; DeAnn Benesh, President, AOAC and Regulatory Affairs Manager for 3M Food Safety (USA); and
Ronald Johnson, Past President AOAC and Associate
Director of the
Scientific Area for
bioMérieux, Inc.
(USA).
