Asia-Pacific Symposium on Food Safety
November 10-12, 2021
The 6th Asia-Pacific Symposium
on Food Safety (APFSIC) was held
November 10-12, 2021 on Jeju Island,
Korea. Organized by the Korea Association
for Food Protection, an IAFP
Affiliate in collaboration with IAFP,
the symposium's theme was " PostCorona
& Food Safety. " It featured
an impeccable network of more than
120 speakers and 730 registrants
from industry, academia, research institutes, governments, supranational
bodies, and students - all from around the world - for two full days of
holistic, inspirational, and educational knowledge, best practices, and
regional and global updates in food safety and quality. Nearly 300 posters
were presented, and 20 exhibitors and 18 sponsors participated.
Day 1 included the Graduate Student
Competition. After Opening Remarks
on Day 2, the Plenary Session included
Ruth Petran, IAFP President, speaking
on " Changing Risk Profiles of Foods
and How to Manage Them " and
Alfonso Lampen, BfR, Head of Board
'Risk Assessment Strategies', Germany,
presenting on " Future Risk Assessment
Strategies in Food Safety in Europe. "
Other sessions included " Combating
Food Fraud: Food Fraud Prevention " ;
" Current Status and Prospect of Asian
Food Safety Standards " ; " Management
of Standards and Specifications
of Foods, Parts I and II " ; " Challenge
of Food Safety Research in PostCOVID-19
Era " ; and Special Sessions
on " Smart Farm & Innovation of Food
Production " and " Smart Animal Farm
& Food Safety. "
Other topics covered throughout the conference included " Korea's
Key Activities in CODEX " ; " Mycotoxin Safety from Farm to Table " ; " HACCP
& Safety Management for Newly Developed Foods " ; and a Young Scientist
Session. A Special Session on " Smart Aquaculture & Food Safety " and a
Roundtable on " AI & Food Authentication " were also part of the agenda.
IAFP and its Affiliate, the Korea Association for Food Protection, are proud
to join with the Korean Society
for Food Hygiene and Safety
(KoSFoS) to host and organize
this important event to discuss
the latest trends and issues
regarding food safety across the
Asia-Pacific region.
Dubai International Food Safety Conference
November 18-23, 2021
The 15th Dubai International
Food Safety Conference (DIFSC)
and IAFP's 8th Middle East Symposium
was held November 18-23,
2021. Approximately 400 in-person
attendees and 1,100 virtual attendees
took part in the five-day event. Twelve
exhibitors and seven sponsors also
participated.
IAFP provides valuable support
to this growing conference, uniting
food safety professionals for educational opportunities and networking.
Organized by the Food Control Department of Dubai Municipality, this year's
hybrid event, titled " Creative Solutions for Sustainable Food Systems, "
showcased best practices and experiences from several countries and
continents, including the U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe, and Saudi Arabia.
Keynote speakers included
Frank Yiannas, Deputy Commissioner
for Food Policy and Response,
U.S. FDA, speaking on the " New Era
of Smarter Food System, " and
Mohammed Hassan, Executive
Director, Federal Competitiveness
and Statistics Centre, presenting
" Creating Value out of Data Ecosystems - A UAE Perspective. " Representing
IAFP during the meeting were David Tharp, Executive Director, who provided
an overview of the Association, and Ruth Petran, Ruth Petran Consulting
LLC and IAFP President, who presented " Changing Risk Profile of Foods
and How to Manage Them. "
The combined efforts between IAFP, the Dubai Municipality, and DIFSC
organizers continue to produce a highly-reputable food safety conference that
provides an ideal platform for the food safety community to work, learn, share,
and mutually benefit from one another. The 16th Dubai International Food Safety
Conference (DIFSC) is scheduled for November 2022.
