IAFP BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES
JULY 16, 2024
Call to Order
The Meeting was called to order at 12:35 pm by IAFP President Tim
Jackson. A moment of silence was held in memory of departed colleagues.
Roll Call/Ascertain Quorum
It was established that there was a quorum with at least 75 members
present. Linda Harris was appointed as Parliamentarian.
Minutes
Minutes from 2023 Annual Business Meeting were presented. The minutes
were accepted by vote after a motion from Katie Swanson that was
seconded by Don Schaffner.
President's Report
Tim Jackson reported on the Association, Annual Meeting attendance,
exhibitor participation, and Membership rate revisions. It was noted that
Membership rates have been the same for 17 years and discussed the need
of membership rate revisions to improve accessibility to many members.
Tim reviewed the revised membership rates based on the World Bank list of
economy and region.
The California Affiliate was acknowledged for their volunteer work at the
2024 Annual Meeting.
The following individuals were recognized with President's Recognition
Awards: Mark Moorman, Fabiana Guglielmone, and the the organizers
of the late-breaking HPAI session " Responding to an Outbreak of Highly
Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) " at IAFP 2024 - Neil Bogart, Josie
Greive Petersen, Maria Hoffman, and Sara Murphy.
Affiliate Council Report
Fabiana Guglielmone, Affiliate Council Chairperson, presented that 3
Affiliate Council meetings were held virtually and one meeting was held in
person at IAFP 2024. Affiliates reported on successes and challenges, and
how to get more people involved. Affiliate View is a good place to record
Affiliate activity and share pictures and reports. Helen Taylor was elected
as Affiliate Secretary (pending approval by the Board). Caio Carvallho will
be the incoming Affiliate Council Chairperson.
DEI Council Report
Erin Headley, Vice Chair of the DEI Council, presented her report. She
stated that the Quiet Room at IAFP 2024 was an accomplishment
based on feedback. The DEI Council sponsored two symposia at IAFP
2024. Guidelines for Exhibitors were developed and information around
accessibility and other issues were addressed. Future plans include a Best
Practices Guide for Convenors, and feedback on the WHY campaign videos.

Chathudina Janitha Liyanage, Sabaragamuwa, University of Sri Lanka; Tori
Stivers, retired from University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia
Sea Grant; Daniel Weller, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention;
Vanessa Whitmore, Cargill; Surabhi Wason, Kerry; Caitlin Karolenko,
Institute for the Advancement of Food and Nutrition Sciences; Alexis Omar,
Student Representative, University of Delaware.
Executive Director's Report
Lisa Garcia presented the Executive Director's Report. Lisa stated her
appreciation of the IAFP Members and the hard work of the IAFP Staff.
She discussed the financial state of the Association, and the costs
Foundation Committee Report
Gary Acuff reported on the Foundation Committee. The capital balance is
approximately $3.3 million. Approximately $52,000 has been donated at
this year's Annual Meeting (as of Tuesday 7/16/2024). Smaller donations
by more members have been incoming. Fred Weber and Tori and David
Stivers both matched up to $10,000 of donations here at the 2024 IAFP
Annual Meeting. The Foundation awarded seven dependent care grants,
and 20 student travel award grants. The Silent Auction will raise at least
$8,400 in 2024.
Adjourn
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Neil Bogart and seconded by
Don Schaffner. The meeting was adjourned at 1:35 p.m. by President Tim
Jackson.

over the last few years, which necessitated increases in membership and
Annual Meeting registration rates. Lisa indicated that IAFP had cash and
investment reserves that sustained it through several difficult years. 2024
looks promising.
Bylaw Amendment
Don Schaffner, Chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, presented
the proposed changes to the Bylaws. A motion to approve the proposed
change to Bylaw language, Section I, Membership and Dues was made by
Ruth Petran and seconded by Jim Dickson.
A second motion was made by Jim Dickson to approve the modified Bylaw
Change #2 concerning the term of the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Food
Protection with a friendly amendment to switch the order of the1st and 2nd
paragraphs. Caroline Smith DeWaal seconded the motion and it passed.
Tellers Report
Laurie Post presented the Teller's Report for the Secretary Election. 722
votes were cast. Pamela Wilger was elected as Secretary to begin July
18, 2024. Leon Gorris was thanked for his willingness to represent IAFP
and stand for election. A motion was made by Neil Bogart was made to to
accept the Teller's report and to destroy the Ballots. Roger Cook seconded
the motion and it passed.
Journal of Food Protection Management Report
Ian Young reported on the JFP Management Committee. Teresa Bergholz
was selected as Vice Chair of the Committee. The Impact Factor of JFP has
improved, and the speed of reviews and the time to publish articles have
improved. The Scientific Editors report was presented. An Award for an
Outstanding Reviewer for JFP was awarded for the first time. Editor-invited
reviews were reported. The special issue on Artificial Intelligence has 11
articles submitted.
Food Protection Trends Management Report
Laura Strawn reported on FPT. FPT also awarded an Outstanding Reviewer.
Submissions to FPT are extremely large. Articles published in FPT are open
access after 6 months. The Committee discussed special issues concerning
activities at the Annual Meeting, including symposia and PDG activities.
