On-the-job	training

October	27,	2009 Dr.	Wesley	Nuffer School	of	Pharmacy University	of	Colorado,	Denver Dear Dr. Nuffer: For	the	past	four	months,	I	have	participated	in	a pre-diabetes/diabetes	education	program	sponsored	by your	School	of	Pharmacy	and	Rocky	Mountain	Pharmacy in	Estes	Park,	Colo. Earlier	this	spring,	it	had	been	indicated	to	me	by	my physician	that	I	had	a	pre-diabetes	condition. About	that time,	an	advertisement	in	the	local	paper	indicated	your diabetes	education	program	was	taking	clients	for	the program	at	the	Rocky	Mountain	Pharmacy	in	Estes	Park, Colo.	I	immediately	signed	up. I	have	been	very	impressed	with	the	program,	primarily working	with	Jennifer Paul,	one	of	your	senior	pharmacy	students.	I	have	met	with	her	three	times,	and	each time	she	has	been	personable,	patient,	and	informative with	her	time	and	information.	My	response	has	been to	exercise	more,	lose	weight,	reduce	sugar	intake,	and watch	my	diet.	The	results	have	been	very	effective. I	want	to	thank	you	and	the	Rocky	Mountain	Pharmacy for	its	excellent	service.	It	has	been	very	helpful	and rewarding	to	me. Sincerely, Richard Boyer

or	several	years,	the	School	of	Pharmacy	has	been	working	with	pharmacies	throughout the	state	to	provide	diabetes	care	and	anticoagulation	clinics	for	patients	in	rural Colorado.	Each	clinic	serves	as	an	experiential	training	site	for	senior	pharmacy students	who	provide	direct	patient	care	under	the	supervision	of	local	preceptors	and full-time	School	of	Pharmacy	faculty	members. For	patients	and	communities,	these	clinics	supply	a	much-needed	resource	and	reassurance. For	students,	they	provide	hands-on	training.	And,	for	the	pharmacies,	the	clinics	offer	an additional	service	by	educating	patients	and	putting	them	on	a	path	to	wellness	and	health. Numerous	patients	have	experienced	positive	benefits	from	their	interaction	with	our	students. The	following	letters	reflect	the	responses	of	patients	to	the	care	they	have	received	from	our students	at	one	of	our	sites	–	the	Rocky	Mountain	Pharmacy	in	Estes	Park.
